So it took a while, but summer is finally here. Here are a few summer essentials that I love, and will help you get through the next few sticky months:
- Blotting Papers: These great little papers have been around forever and are perfect to use when you feel your face has a little more sheen than you’d like. Simply swipe on your t-zone and discard, keeping in mind that you may have to brush on a little powder afterward.
Looking for a Bargain? Try Quo Blotting Papers ($4.99) available at Shoppers Drug Mart
Got a Fat Wallet? Try Nars Perfecting Powder Sheets ($19.50) at Sephora stores.
- Bronzer: The key to summer makeup is less is more. Use bronzer to achieve that “kissed by the sun” look. Place bronzer exactly where the sun would hit your face-on your t-zone (down the bridge of your nose and across the forehead) and the tops of your cheek bones. Go light-handed at first and build colour as you go in order to avoid the orange look we detest so much!
Looking for a Bargain? Try Almay Powder Bronzer ($10.99) at drugstores
Got a Fat Wallet? Try Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals “Faux Tan all over Face Colour” ($20.00) available at Sephora stores
- SPF lip balm: With that gorgeous new bronzer you won’t need a lot of colour on your lips. It is important however to keep your lips hydrated and protected from the sun’s rays with SPF lip balm. Go fancy, or drugstore cheap, just make sure the label says SPF 15.
Looking for a Bargain? Try Blistex Complete Moisture SPF 15 ($4.29) at drugstores
Got a Fat Wallet? Try Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 ($22.50) available at Sephora
- Liquid eye liner: This one may seem like an odd essential, but there’s no better way to go from day time to night time than applying a little liquid liner. It is smudge proof and melt proof and can turn your makeup look from simple to dramatic in only a few seconds. Look for liquid eyeliner with felt tips-they are stiffer and thus much easier to apply.
Looking for a Bargain? Try Loreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Liner ($12.49) at Shoppers Drug Mart
Got a Fat Wallet? Try Lancome Art Liner ($28.00) available at Sephora
- Purse Size Perfume: Let’s face it, the summer heat can often leave you feeling not the freshest after a full day of work or an afternoon roaming the city. The perfect solution is a purse size perfume you can keep in your purse at all times and swipe it on whenever necessary! They come in various formats-solid, roll-on, and spray.
Looking for a Bargain?Try Fruits and Passion Human Handbag size Eau de Toilette ($8.00), L’Occitane Solid Perfume ($14.00)
Got a Fat Wallet? Try Stella Eau de Parfum Roll-on ($16.00), L.A.M.B Rollerball ($25.00), Marc Jacobs Daisy Purse Spray ($40.00) all available at Sephora

Excellent summer make-up tips. I like the fact that both affordable and high-end prices for products and where they are found is mentioned. Did you know that the blotting papers have been in the market since the seventies or maybe even before?
I love liquid eyeliner but I am so bad at the application part. Sometimes I land up with a thick line on one eye and a not so thick line on the other.
Do you have any tricks?
Help!!
Liquid liner:
As I mentioned always buy felt liner as the application process is much easier when the brush is stiff.
When applying liquid liner, get close to a mirror and tilt your chin up. You'll get a better angle of your eyelid. Draw the line from the very inner corner all the way out and wing it up if you want a more dramatic look. Always start lighthanded and aim for a thin line as you can add thickness if you want later. If you make a mistake, dip a q-tip in makeup remover and fix it! Try using Quo q-tips which have a pointy end.
Give it a try and be sure to let me know how it goes!!
