Check out Interpreting Runway Looks: Part I for #1-3 if you missed the first part of this post...

  1. Focus on key silhouettes:  Every season, there are a few silhouettes that are echoed throughout the collections but more importantly, are translatable to our wardrobes.  Flip through the fall magazine issues for the silhouettes that will keep you looking current this season.  Here are a couple to get you started...

At Marc Jacobs, cocoon coats took center stage.  While this look may seem extreme, mass retailers like Joe Fresh are offering similar styles in a tamer, more wearable silhouette.

At Versace, Donatella belted a grey, long cardigan over a short knit.  You can stay current with a similar style from Gap, but worn casually over denim.

  2. Buy in with colour and print: When all else fails, stick to shapes you love and work on you in the colours and prints of the season. Luckily, this fall flattering, rich jewel tones in purple and green are everywhere and feminine florals rule.
