Kids are back at school well stocked with their pencils, erasers and colour-coded notebooks.  Sadly, for most of us, that exciting time has passed. But that doesn`t mean we have to foresake the anticipation that back to school shopping brings. I truly believe that we need to create our own rituals in life, so I am proposing that we adopt a new one: Back to Boot Shopping.  Boots are essential for fall but they are also a major investment, so thought and time should be dedicated to this cause.  It is best to have an idea of what you are looking for before you go.  Next, grab a friend, or a book off an afternoon for yourself, and go buy some boots!  Tip: Don`t dally - all the best boots sell out early in season.

The key boot trends for fall are of the motorcycle, ankle and riding variety, but go with what you love!  Here are some styles I am currently coveting to get you started.

The style above, by Pour La Victoire, is my Dream Boot.  It is a gorgeous caramel colour in a broken-in wrinkled leather, and hits just above the knee with a toggle detail.

I love these Kenneth Cole Ankle Boots (below) in soft grey suede.  You could wear them casually with skinny jeans or dress them up with a pencil skirt.

The Frye Company has been making boots for over 140 years, so you can be sure that a pair of Frye boots will serve both form and function.  The riding boot below is a statement on its own, and the cuff can be worn up or folded down.

Wear these Nine West boots with skinny jeans or to transition a summer dress into fall.

I love boot shopping, what a great ritual to start! :) I am not sure what type of boot to get this fall...am thinking something 3/4 length with a mid-heel so I can still walk around.

These are GREAT boot choices! I love each of them. But I wish tall boots didn't cost so much these days!
