Damn Those Three Things!

A few months ago I wrote a post about how we really only have three choices in any given difficult situation (in no particular order):

Change it
Leave it
Accept it

Recently, while I was complaining about a challenging situation I was dealing with, my sister not-so-gently reminded me of this - "Kena, what about those three things you wrote about on your blog?!" My response? "Damn those three things!" Why? I wanted to complain. When we complain, we get to be the victims. When we complain, we are saying we don't have a choice, though this is never true. But complaining leads to nothing or even worse, it creates negative energy leaving you open to more to complain about. Why is it so easy to fall into? Because the three choices above are hard and complaining is just too easy.

Changing something is probably the easiest one to tackle. The problem is, it doesn't always depend on us. Sometimes it depends on other people changing. hmm....We all know how easy it is to change others. We can change only what we have control over, which is sometimes more than we realize.

Leaving a situation can be easy or a major decision. Leaving a restaurant where there are loud annoying people - easy. Walking away from a relationship - very hard.

Accepting a situation is in some cases, the most challenging choice of all. Some situations you should not accept and that leaves you with choice 1 or 2. Others you may have to accept for a time period before you can get to 1 or 2. And still others require full acceptance which takes time and dedication to the cause.

So where am I in my current challenge? Ask me and I will tell you. But let's work together to focus on our three choices. And if you hear me complaining (which you no doubt will), please remind me of the "three things".
