My friend Shaireen recently asked me for help searching for a great handbag for under $200 (sorry Shlu for taking so long - I hope you haven't already bought one!).  It was no easy feat, let me tell you.  What I found is that in order to find a solid handbag under $200 you may have to limit your options to:

  • fabric, nylon or pleather bags instead of leather (which is more eco so consider it a conscientious choice and not a sacrifice)
  • simple hardware and construction (ie tote vs a more complicated shape and less bells and whistles)
  • a mass market brand

After searching far and wide, here are my top pics...all under $200.  I also love Matt and Nat's new vegan line Samsara (not included below)- a dollar from every handbag purchased goes to a non-profit organization of your choice.  And of course you can always hit your favourite vintage shops or visit discount online retailers like bluefly.com.

I would love to hear about your great under $200 handbag finds!

Yes, this is indeed a serious challenge. I was on a hunt for a great black bag for years and only found one a few months ago at Studio Biba at Y&E. It comes from the BC company http://www.iscov.com They make great bags made of treated leather and very durable. I use mine everyday as a diaper bag! It was $179.99!

Thanks for the note Mish! That is so good to know. I will check it out.
