Five Easy Holiday Dressing Tips

I wrote a post this time last year about easy dressing for the holidays. As I read it again I realized it was proof that true style is eternal. I admit it - around this time of year, I longingly browse the December issues of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. I admire the glamourous people, the fabulous frocks and the extravagant jewelry. But for most of us, holiday parties include after work events at a nearby bar or restaurant, or dinners at the homes of family and friends. These lower key festive events don't call for floor length chiffon gowns, but are no reason to go the jeans-and-turtleneck-sweater route either. Here are five tips for easy, holiday-appropriate dressing. Check your closet before heading out to the shops - you may already have what you need for a perfect holiday outfit.

1. Go for The Statement Necklace: The statement necklace is THE accessory of the season! This versatile piece will take you from a t-shirt and jeans to a cashmere sweater and sequined skirt.

2. Add Sparkle. Jewelry, hair accessories, and embellished sweaters and T's are easy great ways to up the ante.

3. Wear Rich Fabrics. Any piece of clothing in silk, taffeta, velvet, lace or cashmere will add a lushness that goes beyond the every day.

4. Choose One Dramatic Piece. Pair a more dramatic silhouette with something basic from your wardrobe. A full skirt with a basic fitted cardigan, a bowneck blouse or cowl neck sweater with your wool work trousers.

5. Up the Colour Quotient. Jewel toned blouses and sweaters, red lips, crimson cheeks, and dark dramatic nails are simple ways to add depth and drama to your holiday outfits.
