I Lost My Purse

My Replacement Purse

My Replacement Purse

I lost my purse last week.  Correction:  I left it somewhere and some punk stole it.  It was a silly mistake on my part, something that could happen to anyone really, but with a very unfortunate result.  But that didn't stop me from losing a night's sleep over it.  The next day I decided that in order to snub any bad karma, I would find things to be thankful for instead of stewing in "how could I be so stupid?" and "why did this happen to me?".  A few things on my list:

  • The gym I joined waived the enrollment fee and gave me $50 to spend in the shop
  • I saw the same random girl on the way to work as on the way back on my subway car (and I was travelling at off peak hours) - what are the chances?!?
  • The man in the grocery store who helped me find the horeradish said he was happy to help such a beautiful girl (he was slightly cross-eyed and his glasses were at least one inch thick, but I'll take it!)

If I had only focused on the annoyance of losing my purse, I wouldn't have appreciated all the wonderful parts of my day. Don't let a negative moment or experience keep you from appreciating all the good experiences that surround it. For every bad thing, I'll bet there are at least three good, two awesome, and one amazing one to counteract it!!
