On Sunday evening, I managed to convince my husband to watch the Golden Globes (after the football game was over, of course). I watched the lovely movie stars step up one after the other. Their dresses and hair styles may have differed, but they all looked elegant, sophisticated and classic hollywood. And then Helena Bonham Carter (HBC) reached Alexa Chung's mike...
Wild hair, two different colour shoes, and a crazy mixed pattern Vivienne Westwood Dress!
HBC's style has been called bizarre, eccentric, off-beat and even witchy. She has been quoted calling herself the Anti-Christ of fashion. Although her style may not translate to most of our lives (or even appeal to us necessarily), there are lessons to be learned in her care-free, fun and screw-you approach to fashion.
Style Lessons from HBC:
1. Have fun with Clothes & Accessories
2. You Don't Have to Look Like Everyone Else
3. Take Risks. It is Only Clothes!!
4. Be Bold with Colour, Print, Shape & Texture
Perhaps two different colour shoes doesn't float your boat. How to apply HBC's lessons to your own style?
Here are some super simple ideas:
1. Mix patterns. Stripes with plaid, a floral print with stripes, etc.
2. Try bright coloured tights. So easy.
3. Layer bold colours. Yellow & Green. Orange & Pink. You get the idea!
4. Try something vintage. Sometimes the shapes, fabrics and prints from another decade is all you need to add some fun to your current wardrobe.
5. Try a bold lip colour or wacky nail colour (For those who just want to dip their toe in the water!)
Sometimes in life and in fashion, it's good to take risks and get out of your comfort zone. Just for the pure FUN of it.

I think the only thing we can learn from HBC is "What NOT to wear". She's a disaster!
How about: wear what feels good?
I think she's trying way too hard. Do you really think that ridiculous ensemble "feels good" to her? I think it stinks of effort (i.e. trying to be different), as opposed to being genuinely unique.
I think you should use Tilda Swinton as an example instead!

I think that's how HBC dresses almost every day. Its like playing dress-up. I'm not a huge fan of Tilda Swinton's look at the GG. Looks like a petticoat from one of my mom's sari's tied over a mens white shirt!
she always dress like this and i think it's fantastic *-* i loved this dress very much and would use it!
